EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Cassie Bishop hit four home runs over the weekend, leading the Northwest Christian University softball team to a 3-1 record at the Northwest Cup softball tournament in Clackamas. Bishop, the all-time leader in home runs, now has five on the season, giving her 17 in her career.

Willamette 7, Northwest Christian 2

The Beacons opened the tournament on a sour note, dropping their first game on Saturday to Willamette University, which extended a six-game losing streak. Brooke Davis had a strong game at the plate, batting 2-for-4 with a home run and a triple. She scored both runs and had an RBI. Davis also threw eight strikeouts, but took the loss, allowing six earned runs.

Northwest Christian 4, Lewis & Clark 1

The pitching tandem of sophomores Jenna Royce and Kalyssa Koontz took to the circle in the Beacon's second game, allowing just four hits and one unearned run over seven innings of work. Koontz picked up the victory, allowing just one hit over the final five innings while striking out three.

The Beacons scored their four runs on just three hits, as they were benefactors of five Lewis & Clark errors. Bishop put her first ball over the outfield fence, and went 2-for-3. Sarah Leonard and Corrie Gustafson also had RBIs for NCU.

Northwest Christian 13, George Fox 6

The bats exploded for 14 hits in Sunday's first game as NCU took care of business against George Fox. NCU hit four home runs in the game, getting two from Bishop and one apiece from Emma Armstrong and Megan Mazanec. For Armstrong it was her first career homer.

Davis went 3-for-5 at the plate hitting a pair of doubles as she recorded three RBI. Armstrong batted 2-for-5, scored a run, and drove in four runs. Bishop and Gustafson each scored twice and Kristen DeHaven batted 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Jonni Byrne walked and scored runs in each of her plate appearances.

Royce got the victory for her first decision of the season, allowing three runs and striking out three over the final four innings of the game.

Northwest Christian 7, Pacific 1

Davis struck out four batters through five innings and allowed one run on two hits to pick up her first victory of the season. Koontz threw the final two innings and kept her season era at 0.00 after giving up just two hits.

The Beacons were efficient again, scoring their seven runs on just five hits. Bishop went 2-for-4 and had her final home run of the weekend. Armstrong and Brittany Robles each scored a pair of runs for Northwest Christian.

The Beacons will be back in action on Friday when they travel to play six games in three days at the Southern Oregon Tournament.
