EUGENE, Ore. – For the first time in three years the Northwest Christian University women's basketball team was unable to pull out a victory in their home opener, falling to Westmont College, 73-52. The Beacons shot just 30% in the game and was plagued by 24 turnovers in their debut.

Lindsey Shearer (pictured) made her Beacon debut with nine points, a block, a steal, and a game-high six assists.
Hope Williams and
Martha Taylor scored seven points apiece with Williams adding a game-high ten rebounds.
Westmont, an NAIA Division I school out of Santa Barbara, California, had five players score in double-figures, led by 14 from Katie Kittle. Angel Blanco added 13 and both Vanessa Farias and Kelsie Sampson came off the bench to score eleven. The Warriors bench out-scored the NCU reserves, 28-16.
NCU will now hit the road for five straight matches, including the next four in California. The Beacons will visit Simpson University on Tuesday night, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 pm.
