Beacons Grind Out Tough Win

Box Score

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Northwest Christian University women's basketball team closed out their week-long road trip on Saturday night with a gritty 60-56 victory over William Jessup at the Bill Holtz Warrior Classic. NCU was handily out-rebounded by a bigger team in a game that saw 45 total fouls, but the Beacons held the Warriors to under 30% shooting in the game.

Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “We played an incredibly physical game and this was a big gut-check for us, playing our fourth game in five days and playing without Lori [Renner]. Jessup was aggressive and used their size advantage effectively and we really needed to come together. We played some match-up zones that we hadn't practiced and I couldn't be happier with the way we pulled through.”

The Beacons were led by Lindsey Shearer, scoring 15 points on a 6-for-11 shooting night. Hope Williams added eight points with a team-high six rebounds and three steals while Katey Monteith (pictured) came off the bench to score 14 points and also grab six boards. The NCU bench outscored the Warrior reserves, 29-19.

William Jessup was led by Nicole Aboumrad, scoring 14 points. She was just 2-for-9 from the field, but went 9-for-10 at the free-throw line. Ashley Rose followed with 13 points and seven rebounds and Vanessa Johnson scored eight points and snagged a game-high eight rebounds as WJU out-glassed the Beacons, 41-31.

After a week on the road, the Beacons return to classes this week and will play again next Saturday, traveling to Salem to take on Willamette University. NCU is 1-0 all-time against the Bearcats.
