Beacons Drop Third Straight Game

NEWBERG, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men's soccer team fell on the road on Monday to George Fox University, 4-0. The Beacons are now scoreless through their first three games on the season and have not scored in 437 minutes, dating back to an October 25th game last season against Evergreen State.

The Bruins, who were also scoreless through their first two games of the season, did some rearrangements of their lineup that paid off. Career defender Sean Daughtry was moved into the offense and made the most of it, scoring a pair of goals, including the game winner, which came in the 12th minute off a corner-kick from Kyle Story.

Daughtry tacked on his second goal just seven minutes later and George Fox held a 2-0 lead at the intermission, after out-shooting the Beacons 20-3 in the period. NCU buckled down in the second half and the Bruins didn't score again until the final eight minutes of the game on a penalty kick by Zach Sanders. Wade Knowles rounded out the scoring two minutes later.

The Beacons finished the game being outshot 29-7 as GFU took 20 shots on goal. The scoring margin could have been a lot larger if not for the work of goalkeeper Nick Kratzke, who made 16 saves in the game, including 12 in the first half alone.

“We've been depleted in terms of man power,” said head coach Chris Bolton. “It's really hard when we have five potential starters sitting on the bench with injuries and other things and it just left us with too few men to really compete today.”

The Beacons will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to face Walla Walla University.
