EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team broke a three-game losing streak as they defeated Northwest University on Friday night, 66-54. Four players were in double-figures for the Beacons, led by a 17-point night from
Jenneca Crocker, who hit four three-pointers.
Crocker set the tempo right away, hitting a game-opening three-pointer at the 17:53 mark. The Eagles came back and took the lead on a McKenzie McKean jumper and the teams traded another three leads before Northwest emerged to lead by six, 16-10 with just under ten to play. NU continued to hold a 20-14 lead, when NCU made a charge. The Beacons went on a 7-2 run and climbed within one. Then, trailing by three with just over a minute to play,
Katey Monteith went to the line on back-to-back possessions and score three of four free throws to tie the game, 26-26 at the half.
Northwest took the lead to open the second half on a three-point play by Brittany Bowsher, but it was all NCU from there as the Beacons went on a 13-1 run to grab a nine-point lead. The Beacons would end up leading by as many as 14 before taking home the twelve-point win.
Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “We worked all week on the importance of execution. They were able to see tonight that good things can happen for this team when they follow directions and they play hard.”
The Beacons (8-16, 3-12 CCC) move out of the cellar in the Cascade Conference with the win, moving into a 10th-place tie with Cascade. Behind Crocker, Monteith scored 12 points and
