Beacons Swept After Last Second Shot

EUGENE, Ore. – Despite leading with 1.6 seconds remaining on Saturday night, the Northwest Christian University women's basketball team lost to Northwest University, 56-55 after a last-ditch shot was hit by the Eagles. This capped off a tough weekend for the Beacons, who also fell to Evergreen State on Friday night, 65-51.

The weekend has started out slowly for NCU, as they shot just 30% from the field on their way to the 14-point loss to Evergreen. The top-heavy Beacon roster continued to make their presence known as the starters accounted for all but six points. The Geoduck bench ended the night out-scoring the Beacon reserves by 25.

Elise Gray led the way for Northwest Christian with a game-high 18 points, along with nine rebounds. McKenzie Gambee added her fifth double-double of the season with ten points and 13 rebounds. Calie McVicker also scored ten and also grabbed a team-high three steals.

Gray again led NCU on Saturday night, scoring 15 points in the loss to Northwest. Gambee added 11 points and a game-high 9 rebounds and Jenneca Crocker chipped in nine points. After the game, Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, “This was probably our best all around game of the season. It was a well played game by both teams, it was intense on both ends of the court. The girls really responded well to some things that we said in our team meetings on Saturday and I am encouraged to see what happens going forward.”

Northwest Christian (6-13, 1-9 CCC) will be back in action this weekend, traveling to face Corban College and Concordia University as they embark on the second-half of conference play.
