EUGENE, Ore. – After 90 scoreless minutes of regulation between Oregon Tech and visiting Northwest Christian University, the men's soccer game was decided by a goal scored seven-minutes into overtime, and just 30 seconds after a red-card put NCU at an 11-to-10 man disadvantage.
The Beacons had played solid defensive soccer for 96 minutes, allowing just five shots on goal to the OIT Owls, a first-year program in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. But in the 96th minute,
Greg Erickson was flagged with a red card for unnecessary roughness, leaving the Beacons with one-less man on the field for the remainder of the contest.
In just 30 seconds the Owls took advantage, when Leo Keiser dibbled into the left side of the box, passing two defenders before placing the ball in the right corner for the game-winning score. It was a difficult way to end the game for a team still striving for their first CCC victory of the season.
The Beacons (1-6-1, 0-4 CCC) were even with Oregon Tech in shots, 18-18, but took two less shots on goal.
Jared Frasier spent 58 minutes in goal for NCU, making three saves without allowing a goal.
Northwest Christian returns to action on Friday when they travel to Caldwell, Idaho to take on the College of Idaho in another CCC contest. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm local time in that game.
