EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Christian University lost their fifth straight game on Wednesday night, falling to Concordia University of Portland, 6-0. The Cavaliers, who opened the season in the NAIA's top-25 are still receiving votes in the coaches poll, and are in first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
Concordia dominated play for most of the contest, out-shooting the Beacons 24-2, holding NCU without a shot on goal in the game. The Beacons best scoring threat came in the first minute of the game. A deep serve from goalkeeper Cuyler Ziegler hit past the midfield line and traveled to the waiting feet of
Greg Erickson, who was left alone versus the CU keeper. He got off a shot but it moved just right of the goal on its way out of bounds. The only other shot came from
Chris Senick early in the second half.
The Cavaliers got on the board first in the 18th minute when Facundo Dipascuale headed in a corner kick from Tyler Camp for what would prove to be the game winner. It was also the only goal scored in the first half.
The final 45 minutes brought five more goals for the Cavaliers. Jon Larsen scored unassisted in the 48th minute and two minutes later Lucas Egenwall hit a header off a free kick from Bryan Iotte to make it 3-0. Iotte got on the board himself in the 69th minute with a flick off a pass from Skyler Kimball.
The final pair of goals came in the 78th and 84th minutes both by Turner Bloom. The first came on a header off a cross from Evan Denmark. The second came on a rebound after a free kick by Ryan Hill bounced off the crossbar.
The Beacons will be back in action this Saturday when they play host to Cascade College. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
