Jonathan Alfson became Bushnell's Faculty Athletic Representative in 2025.
Dr. Alfson serves as an Assistant Professor of Physics, and teaches physics and mathematics courses. With a background in physics education research (PER), his research interests are focused on how students think and learn using external representations, with a particular attention to the coordination of multiple external representations.
Dr. Alfson holds a Ph.D. and Master of Science degree from Oregon State University and earned Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees from Arizona State University.
Dr. Alfson loves seeing students work together to successfully solve challenging problems. He facilitates a classroom environment where students learn through direct practice, believing that problem-solving skills are best learned through solving problems in a supportive setting. In his leisure time, Jonathan likes to swim, hike, and backpack.
