Mike Dotson joined the Beacon track & field coaching staff in 2020 as the throws coach. Dotson comes to Bushnell with an extensive background as both a competitor and coach in multiple throws events.Â
Coach Dotson spent 17 years as an assistant track coach at Marist High School, focusing on throws. During his career he coached multiple state champions and record-holders including Eric Wood who won a state shot put title and went on to complete at Brown University. His list of conference champions and state finishers is remarkable.Â
Dotson's career as a thrower included a very successful high school career at Churchill High where he set a school shot put record that has only been passed once in the last forty years. He was an All-State football player for the Lancers and went on to play two seasons at Linfield College before being derailed with a knee injury. He closed out his academics at the University of Oregon where he studied business.Â
