Matt Binkerd joined the NCU Track & Field coaching staff in 2019, leading the hurdle and pole vault disciplines.

Well known in the Eugene/Springfield area, Binkerd has been coaching locally for over 20 years and was a collegiate Pole Vaulter and four-year letter winner at the University of Oregon from 1991 to 1995.

Most recently, Binkerd spent nine years as an assistant coach at Sheldon High School in Eugene. Binkerd is also the Athletic Director at Sheldon, a post which he has held since 2009. Prior to coming to Sheldon, Binkerd was an assistant coach at Springfield High for nine years and spent five years as their Athletic Director. 

Upon his graduation from Oregon in 1995 with a Bachelors degree in sociology and psychology, Binkerd assumed head coaching duties for the boys track & field team at Elmira High where he remained for four years. 

Coach Binkerd also earned a Masters in Teaching from Pacific University in 1996, specializing in social studies. 

Binkerd lives in Eugene with his wife Nicole, daughter Taylor, and sons Cade and Aiden. Along with his full-time work at Sheldon High, Binkerd is also the Athletic Director at New Hope Christian College.Â
