Elton Villanueva joined the Bushnell Beacon Volleyball program as an assistant coach prior to the 2022 season. He was named the Director of Esports and Athletic Events Coordinator in July of 2022.Â
With over 20 years of coaching experience at all levels of beach and indoor volleyball, Coach Villanueva brings a broad body of work to the Beacons. Since the early 2000's he has spent time as the head coach at North Eugene High School, and with renowned local club programs in Storm'n West and Webfoot. His dream is to develop stronger cohesion through local school and community participation in beach volleyball activities on Maui.
Villanueva grew up playing indoor and beach volleyball on Maui, and played at some of the highest levels of club and tour volleyball. He was a starter for "No Dinx", playing at the national and Junior Olympic levels. From 2001-2004 he played competitively, winning numerous tournaments in California and Southern Oregon.Â
Coach Villanueva studied at the University of Oregon and later spent eight years there as an adjunct professor of organizational psychology and applied meta-cognition. Outside of volleyball, his passions lie in mindset coaching and leadership consulting, working with business leaders and athlete. Prior to Bushnell, he worked for the Oregon Department of Human Services and Oregon Health Authority as a family coach.Â
