REDDING, Calif. - Â In an effort to get their weekend CCC series in before an anticipated weather system throughout the Pacific Northwest and Northern California, Bushnell and Simpson played a triple-header on Thursday with the Red Hawks coming out on top in all three contests.
Â
Simpson, in their first year of membership in the Cascade Conference, took all three games to improve to 15-25 and 9-9 in the CCC. Bushnell falls to 5-28 with a 2-16 conference mark. The fourth non-conference game of the series was cancelled.Â
Â
GAME ONE: Simpson 2, Bushnell 0
Â
Violet Richardson (pictured) threw her best game of the season, striking out three batters and allowing just three hits without an earned run in the complete game effort.
Â
Unfortunately she wasn't backed up offensively, as the Beacons were kept off the scoreboard by Jacquelyn Lujan who struck out seven.
Riley Peeler accounted for two of the team's three hits with a single and a triple, adding a stolen base.
Â
Simpson scored both of their runs in the bottom of the sixth, breaking open the pitchers duel as they cashed in on a two-run single from Brianna Lopez-Cortez.
Â
GAME TWO: Simpson 11, Bushnell 3 (Six Innings)
Â
Lopez-Cortez continued her red hot day in the second game, hitting a pair of home runs and accounting for six RBI as the Red Hawks rolled to the run-rule win.
Â
The Beacons had five errors in the game, but still gave up nine earned runs in the game.
Gabby Garza (0-6) took the loss, giving up three earned on two hits as she worked into the second inning.
Â
Peeler went 2-for-3 for the Beacons once again, improving her batting average to .417 which ranks seventh in the CCC. Richardson added a two-run single in the third inning.
Â
GAME THREE: Simpson 8, Bushnell 5
Â
The Redhawks added a come-from-behind effort to their repertoire in the third game. After spotting the Beacons a 5-1 lead with a five-run second inning, Simpson slowly climbed back, taking the lead with a three-run fifth before two insurance runs came across in the sixth.
Â
Trailing 1-0 in the second, Wambolt put the Beacons on top with a two-run single, followed by a three-run homer from
Maddy Fullenwider, her first of the season. A double for Richardson followed, which led to a pitching change for Simpson.
Â
Lujan (6-7) came in to record the third out and went on to retire 13 straight batters and pitching to just one over the minimum to claim her second win of the day.
Â
Sara Martin (3-12) went five innings for the Beacons and gave up five earned runs on nine hits.
Â
UP NEXT: Bushnell will come home on April 17 for their final home series of the season against The College of Idaho. The first game is scheduled for a 3:00 pm first pitch.
