EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell women's basketball team opened up 2026 on a strong note on Friday evening, taking down The Evergreen State College at home, 72-48 to claim their first Cascade Collegiate Conference win of the season.
The Beacons (3-10, 1-4 CCC) utilized a 47-33 rebounding margin and took advantage of seven blocked shots to secure the victory as Evergreen (0-8, 0-5) shot just 30% in the game.
Bushnell never trailed and were tied three times early, leaving the first quarter knotted at 17-17. The next ten minutes were all Bushnell as they opened up the frame on a 16-1 run, holding the Geoducks without a field goal until the final minute of the half.
The Beacons pulled off a similar feat as they put the game away in the fourth quarter, opening on a 15-4 run and holding Evergreen without a field goal for nearly eight minutes. The home team led by as many as 26 points late before claiming the 24-point margin of victory.

Maddie Gerhart really gave us a lift inside and really had her way. Sabrina started the game strong, really gave us a lift, and played some outstanding defense. Evergreen has a couple of really talented kids and we were able to do some good things against them."
The Beacons were led by Gerhart (pictured), finishing with 15 points including a 9-for-9 effort at the free-throw line. Flowers added 14, hitting a trio of three pointers to go along with two steals and a blocked shot. Kenzie Pedersen followed with nine points and eight rebounds,
Ayden Krupke scored eight, and
Ciena Tumoine finished with six points and a game-high six assists.
Evergreen was led by Jenna Glenzel, scoring 18 points and five steals while Bayleigh Harder scored 13 points and seven rebounds. Habiba Adam scored six, and led all players with nine rebounds.
UP NEXT: The Beacons remain at home on Saturday afternoon to take on Northwest University (4-9, 0-5) at 3:00 pm. The Eagles are still looking for their first conference win after falling to Corban on Friday, 74-67.
