EUGENE, Ore – The Beacons took time on Saturday to honor seniors
Emily Cole,
Emma Fournier, and
Taylor Kenworthy, during a double-header against Eastern Oregon. The Mounties swept the double header, 4-0 and 8-2.
Sophomore
Violet Richardson also provided some fireworks, crushing her Cascade Conference-leading ninth home run of the season in game two.
GAME ONE: Eastern Oregon 4, Bushnell 0
Three pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout, lifting the Mounties to the Cascade Conference series win and spoiling an outstanding final home effort from Cole.
Kylie Parsons (12-0) went four innings, striking out three batters to secure the win with Taylor Brewer following with 2.1 innings and four strikeouts. Camille Schmitz recorded the final two outs to earn her second save of the season.
Cole (6-13) went the distance for the Beacons and gave up just one earned run while striking out four. All four EOU scores came across in the fourth inning.
Offensively,
Sara Martin led the way, batting 2-for-2 with a walk.
GAME TWO: Eastern Oregon 8, Bushnell 2
The Beacons got things off to a strong start in the non-conference fourth game, scoring twice in the first inning. Starting pitcher
Sara Martin backed up her own effort with an RBI single and Richardson finished later had bases empty when she sent a pitch deep to left field. Her ninth homer of the season gives her the most for a Bushnell player in the last seven seasons.
Bushnell would fall victim to some tough defense in the night cap as they committed a season-high six errors, leading to all eight EOU runs coming in unearned. Sarah Martin gave up the first two in the top of the fourth inning as the Mounties tied the game. She would finish with five innings of work, striking out four batters and allowing just two hits.
Senior
Emma Fournier (0-5) took the mound for the final two innings and gave up six hits while striking out one. Eastern would tag her for six unearned runs in the top of the seventh.
Bushnell finished with five hits on offense including a 2-for-2 performance from
Maddy Fullenwider.
Up Next: Bushnell (12-28, 7-17 CCC) will play their final games on the road next weekend, traveling to take on Warner Pacific University (12-29, 8-16). Bushnell could still tie for sixth-place in the conference with Carroll College, but the Fighting Saints hold the tiebreaker over the Beacons, which has eliminated the good guys from playoff contention.
