College of Idaho Claims Two More Wins

CALDWELL, Idaho – An early lead for Bushnell in game two was not enough to get past The College of Idaho, who completed their sweep against the Beacons on Saturday in Cascade Collegiate Conference gameplay.

GAME ONE: College of Idaho 6, Bushnell 0

Abbey Brooks (4-0) allowed only two hits to the Beacons, helping secure a win in game one for the Yotes.

Emily Cole (2-6) threw two strikeouts during her four innings pitched, and allowed three runs for the Yotes off of three hits and five walks. Alexis Perez came in relief, allowing two hits and three walks resulting in another three runs for the Yotes.

Bushnell posted a solid first inning, led by an infield single from Haleigh Wambolt (pictured), her second hit of the season. The Beacons looked to rally again in the sixth with a walk from Gracie Hamilton and a single to center field by Violet Richardson. A hit by pitch would load the bases for the Beacons, but they weren't able to convert runs in.

GAME TWO: College of Idaho 5, Bushnell 1

Bushnell came out strong in game two, scoring one run and earning two hits in the first inning. Wambolt started the first with an infield single, and she scored on a single to right field by Ashlyn Martin to give the Beacons an early 1-0 lead.

College of Idaho answered the Beacons in the bottom of the first with two runs on three hits, giving the Yotes a one-run lead. They recorded one run in the third, and sealed the game with two runs in the fourth.

For the Beacons, they only earned two more hits through the final six innings. Wambolt singled again in the fourth, followed by Sara Martin's single in the fifth. The Beacons left eleven base runners stranded in game two. Wambolt finished the game hitting 3-for-7.

Sara Martin (3-3) pitched two strikeouts during game two, and gave up nine hits and five runs to the Yotes.

UP NEXT: The Beacons (5-11, 0-6 CCC) are back at home next week for another Cascade Collegiate Conference series matchup versus Carroll College (5-11, 2-4 CCC). The four-game series kicks off at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Rich Schwab Field in Springfield.
