Beacons Hold on to Beat Oregon Tech

EUGENE, Ore.  – The Bushnell men's soccer team claimed their first Cascade Conference win of the season on Saturday, playing the bend-but-don't-break game in the second half for a 2-1 victory over Oregon Tech.

The Beacons (5-2-1, 1-2 CCC) rebounded from their first two losses of the season, scoring goals early in both halves and withstanding a wave of Owl offense over the final 40 minutes. Bushnell was out-shot 15-4 in the game and didn't take a single shot after their goal in the 50th minutes.

Oregon Tech (4-5, 1-3) had ten shots in the second half, including a penalty kick from Andrew Pasang in the 84th minute and three strong headers over the final six minutes, but a six-save effort from Bushnell keeper William Haberfield helped the home team get back into the win column.

Bushnell's first goal was a dandy, coming in the 8th minute of the game. In quick succession, a throw-in to Brady Housley quickly moved to Javier Gutierrez, who one-touched the ball into Danny Rojas in the box, who fired home the early strike for his fourth goal of the season.

The second goal, and eventual game-winner, came in after a Bushnell free kick. An attempted clearance pass in the box from OIT bounced directly to senior defender Zander Harer (pictured), who collected and sent a rocket into the upper left corner of the net for his first career goal.

Head Coach Joao Ehlers said, "We are very pleased with our performance today. We controlled crucial moments of the game and we were rewarded with a good result."

The Beacons will now get ready to hit the road for their next six games on the road, beginning in Montana on Friday, taking on University of Providence (3-4, 2-2) on Friday at 3:30 pm Mountain Time.
