EUGENE, Ore. – Three Beacons will be in action this week, closing out the 2024 track & field season at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships, taking place at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marian, Indiana.
KAITLIN COOK

Senior
Kaitlin Cook's track journey culminates this week with her final performance, or Lord willing, final TWO performances in the 3000-meter Steeplechase. The prelims take place on Wednesday at 7:25 pm (4:25 pm PST) and will be split into two heats with Cook divided into the second heat. The top-five from each heat qualify for the finals, along with the next-four fastest overall finishers, comprising a championship race of 14 runners on Friday at 1:00 pm (10:00 am PST).
Cook comes into the race seeded 18th, after a career-best performance of 11:22.58 at the Oregon Twilight. She becomes the fifth Bushnell women's Steeplechaser to qualify for nationals, joining former All-Americans Cass Brownell, Macie Gale and Michelle Fletcher, along with Anika Rasubala, the 2019 NAIA National Champion.
KALEO WELLMAN

Freshman jumper
Kaleo Wellman has had a remarkable debut campaign for the Beacons. On April 26, he broke a nine-year old school record in the Long Jump and became the first Beacon to ever clear seven meters, hitting 7.23m (23'8.75") and punching his ticket to the NAIA Championship. Wellman then earned a runner-up finish at the Cascade Conference Championship to earn All-CCC honors.
The Long Jump championships take place on Thursday at 2:30 pm (11:30 am PST). Wellman finds himself ranked 21st in the event.
JERMAINE SCHEXNAYDER

Bushnell's other freshman phenom on the track,
Jermaine Schexnayder, is already no stranger to the national scene, having qualified this winter for the NAIA Indoor National Championships in the Triple Jump.
His outdoor season was nothing short of remarkable, becoming Bushnell's first Triple Jump outdoor qualifier, breaking the Beacons school-record, and capping it off with a Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship in the event. He holds the record at 14.89m (48'10.25") and heads into the NAIA event as the No. 9 seed and will be in contention to land in the top-eight to secure his first All-American distinction.
The NAIA Triple Jump championship will close out the event for the Beacons on Friday at 1:30 pm (10:30 am PST).
