Bushnell Esports: Weekly Recap

EUGENE, Ore.  –  The seventh week of play for Bushnell Esports was highlighted by a win in SSBU and a playoff qualification for Valorant.   

SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE (SSBU)
Match 6: Bushnell 2, Warner Pacific 0 (12-7, 12-4)
 
The Beacons competed in their first official SSBU season, debuting with a roster of eight. The format of SSBU was 4v4 Crew Battles. Teams were assigned opponents of similar records each week and played a best-of-three series. 
 
Bushnell played Warner Pacific on Monday in the first-ever matchup between the schools, defeating the Knights for the first official victory in SSBU. The Beacons had earned a win earlier in the season due to an opponent forfeit. Alyssa Unruh, Brandon Mitchell, Nate Byers, Aaron Gold and Jacob Belz saw time in the match.
 
TEAMFIGHT TACTICS (TFT)
Week 1: 10 points (T-18th)
Week 2: 17 points (26th)
Week 3: 23 points (28th)

Week 5: 49 points (21st)
Week 6: 63 points (18th)
Week 7: 74 points (18th)
 
Zack Claunch was placed into the top division (Division A) of competition, representing Bushnell in its first appearance of TFT. Every Monday, Claunch played two matches, competing in an eight-way free-for-all format.
 
Claunch just missed the postseason, finishing in 18th on the leaderboard after the final week of play. He needed to be among the top 16 by the end of the seven-week regular season in order to advance to the playoffs.
 
VALORANT
Match 6: Ball State 2, Bushnell 0 (13-6, 13-5)
 
Bushnell Valorant is back after a year off, featuring three new members to the starting lineup. Cole Vamos, Brett Olmstead, Nathan Farris, Zack Claunch and Connor DeVeny will play on Tuesday of each week, competing in a best-of-three matchup.
 
The Valorant season, consisting of 232 teams, is broken into nine divisions based on rank. The Beacons were placed in Division A, the second-highest level of competition. At the end of the regular season, the top 4 teams from each conference advance to the postseason.    
 
Bushnell fell to Ball State University to end the regular season with a 3-3 record. Thanks to win by Seneca Polytechnic over UNC – Charlotte on Friday, the Beacons snuck into the final playoff spot. A win over UNCC earlier in the season gave Bushnell the fourth-place tiebreaker. The Beacons will take on the Purdue University in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 5:00 p.m.
 
ROCKET LEAGUE
Match 5: Michigan – Flint 4, Bushnell 1 (5-4, 2-3, 2-1, 4-1)
 
Bushnell Rocket League returns with their strongest starting lineup in program history. Cole Vamos, Isaac Wagner and Brec Feehan will play on Wednesday of each week, competing in a best-of-seven matchup.
 
The Rocket League season, consisting of 183 teams, is broken into eight divisions based on rank. The Beacons were placed in Division A, the second-highest level of competition. At the end of the regular season, the top 4 teams from each conference will advance to the postseason.   
 
Bushnell dropped to 2-3 after falling to the University of Michigan – Flint. They enter a must-win game in the final week of play, taking on second-place Mount Aloysius College on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5:00 p.m. With a win, Bushnell will enter a three-way tiebreak scenario that will come down to game differential, a tiebreak the Beacons currently hold the advantage in.
 
MADDEN
Match 7: Mount St. Joseph 2, Bushnell 0
 
Caden Hoerauf represented Bushnell in Madden. He was assigned an opponent of similar record each week, playing a best-of-three series every Thursday night. 
 
Hoerauf finished 3-4 on the season, falling to Mount St. Joseph University in the season finale.
