EUGENE, Ore. – Junior
Caleb Premo produced Bushnell's first hat trick in six years on Friday, leading the Beacons to a 4-0 victory over Walla Walla University in the penultimate game of the season.
Â
The Beacons (7-7-3, 3-7-2) had lost four straight games coming in and pick up their first win since October 4. They did it on the strength of a 21-6 advantage in shot attempts. The Bushnell defense went 90 minutes without allowing the Wolves (1-11, 1-11) a single shot-on-goal.
Â
Head Coach
Joao Ehlers said, "We were pleased to see a lot of movement up front today. Premo has been working hard and this game highlights his improvements throughout the season."
Â
The Beacons scored three of their goals in quick succession in the first half, scoring all three in a ten minute period.
Danny Rojas got the team on the board in the 29th minute, heading the ball in off a side-of-the-box free kick from
David Melo for his sixth goal of the season.
Â
Then it was time for Premo to get to work, scoring his first goal in the 36th minute on a give-and-go combo pass from Rojas and
Jorge Lopez. Just three minutes later he scored again, on another through-ball from Rojas, chipping the keeper for the 3-0 lead.
Â
His fourth goal came early in the second half, this time off a pass from
Javier Gutierrez.
Â
Premo is now tied with Rojas for the season lead at 6, and he moves past Victor Irechukwu into second-place on Bushnell's all-time scoring list with 15 goals. His hat-trick was the first since Irechukwu's record-setting four-goal game in 2018, and it is just the fourth three-goal game in school history.
Â
Bushnell will close the 2024 season on Sunday when they face Rocky Mountain at 2:30 pm.
