Bushnell Completes Weekend Sweep

EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell University women's basketball team earned its third win in five days, defeating Warner Pacific University, 68-49, in the Cascade Collegiate Conference contest in the Morse Center.
 
Bushnell (12-8, 8-6 CCC) got out to a quick start for the second straight night, opening the game on a 12-2 run. The Knights (6-12, 4-10) got within two late in the second quarter, but the Beacons scored the final five points of the half to carry a 31-24 advantage into the break.  
 
The Beacons extended their run to 15-0 to go up by 17 points midway through the third period and didn't slow down in the fourth, having a 21-point quarter to keep the Knights at a comfortable distance.
 
Libby Mathis led the Beacons offensively, finishing with 26 points, 16 rebounds and six assists. Aspen Slifka recorded her fourth straight 20+ point game, tallying 20 points and eight rebounds. Mandy Sisul, Aly Mirabile and Kiley Campos added six points each.
 
"We are on a winning streak now," said Mathis. "We are locked in and this is the best we've ever felt. We are ready to get two wins on the road."
 
Bushnell shot 48.2% from the floor, including 4-of-12 from beyond the arc and were 10-of-14 at the free throw line. Warner Pacific was held to 30.3% from the field, 4-of-21 (19.0%) from deep and did not get many chances at the free throw line, hitting 5-of-6.
 
WPU spread out its scoring as ten players made at least one basket. Tierra Hicks was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Knights, tallying 10 points and six boards.
 
Up next, Bushnell hits the road to take on Northwest (Feb. 2) and the Evergreen State College (Feb. 3).
