Slifka Lifts Beacons to 25-Point Win Over Corban

EUGENE, Ore. – Aspen Slifka scored 30 points to lift the Bushnell women's basketball team to a 77-52 win over Corban in Tuesday's Cascade Collegiate Conference contest in the Morse Center.

Following a tight opening quarter, Bushnell (10-8, 6-6 CCC) used a 24-12 scoring margin in the second to take a 40-30 lead into the break. The Beacons locked in defensively in the second half, holding the Warriors to 22 points the rest of the way to open the second half of CCC play in the win column.

It was the second-highest margin of victory over Corban (5-13, 4-8) in the all-time series.

Slifka hit the 30-point mark for the fourth time in her career and second time this season, scoring 13 points in the third quarter alone. The senior also broke the career record for three-point attempts with 519 in her career, passing Niki Duncan (518).

Aly Mirabile finished with 15 points on the night, taking over late in the game with a 10-point fourth quarter. Mandy Sisul recorded 10 points, while Libby Mathis posted nine points, four blocks and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "Aspen played like the best player in the conference tonight. She put us on her back. Aly ran the show and really stepped up in the second half. It was awesome to see. Libby was a facilitator and Mandy knocked down shots. Kiley played great defense tonight, getting three charges and Sam got quality minutes, knocking down the last shot of the half. And when Aly was in foul trouble, Ayden had her back, having an all-around great game."

As a team, Bushnell shot 43.5% from the field, including 11-of-26 (42.3%) from beyond the arc and a season-best 85.7% (12-14) at the free throw line. The 11-made three-pointers was also a season-high for the Beacons.

Corban finished 35.1% from the floor, 6-of-21 from three and 6-of-18 at the free throw line. Autumn Agnew and Maddie Godwin tallied 13 points apiece, while Teayona Hoard added 10 points off the bench.

"Our roles are solidified," said Meadors. "Everyone really put the pieces of the puzzle together and performed well. This is really going to help kickstart the second half of conference."

Up next, Bushnell hosts Multnomah (Jan. 26) and Warner Pacific (Jan. 27) in the Morse Center.
