EUGENE, Ore. –
Sam Silver threw seven strikeouts in a complete game win and collected four hits as Bushnell ended an eight-game losing streak with a sweep of the University of Providence in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
Â
GAME ONE: Bushnell 7, Providence 2
Â
Silver (2-7) got the start for the Beacons in game one and gave up just one earned run on four hits. Her seven strikeouts were a new career high and included two strikeouts in the seventh inning to end the game.
Â
She didn't stop there, however, as she went 3-for-3 at the dish with her first career triple.
Â
The Beacons scored a run in the second inning on an RBI single by
Michelle Sierra and added two more in the third on an RBI triple by Erika Allen, who later scored on an error. Bushnell made it a 6-0 lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from
Hannah Tennant and a two-run single from Yoshida.
Â
The Argos scored two runs in the sixth, but Tennant added another sac fly in the bottom of the frame.
Â
Madison Steelman went 3-for-3 in the game with a pair of runs while Tennant and
Bryana Yoshida added two RBI each in the victory.Â
Â
GAME TWO: Bushnell 8, Providence 7
Â
The Beacons had to work a little harder for the win in game two as an early 6-1 lead disappeared completely when Providence tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the fifth. The winning run came in the bottom of the sixth as
Alyssa Ferreira reached base on an infield single to deep shortstop that saw Yoshida come all the way around from second base to score.
Â
Bushnell had built a 6-1 lead in the first inning as they scored all six on just two hits, benefitting from five walks and a hit batter. The Argos crept back into the game with a run in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth to make it a 6-5 game.
Â
A Yoshida RBI double in the bottom of the fourth gave the Beacons some breathing room, but Providence tied the game in the fifth on a two-run triple by leadoff hitter Taylor Mathews.
Â
Liz Hillier (2-2) pitched the final two innings for the Beacons, striking out one batter and giving up just one hit to earn the victory.
Â
Silver added her fourth hit of the day while Tennant and
Krystal Akagi each had two hits for the Beacons. Tennant also added her third sacrifice fly of the day and fourth of the year, tying the Bushnell single-season record which was set by
Faith Wayman in 2022.
