Wolves Defeat Beacons, Slifka Adds to Top-10 Scoring List

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Walla Walla University earned their first-ever win over the Bushnell University women's basketball team on Friday afternoon, making 12 three-pointers to come away with the 73-57 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "We didn't get off to a good start and our defense broke down for the first time all year. Two offensive boards the whole game and losing 50-50 balls were not good signs for us. Walla Walla played really well and rode the momentum. We never really allowed ourselves to break their momentum and find our own way."

Walla Walla (5-4, 2-2 CCC) used a 25-13 advantage in the third quarter, which included making five threes, to bring a 14-point lead into the fourth frame. The Wolves led by as many as 21 points, 68-47, midway through the fourth to earn their first-ever victory over Bushnell (6-4, 2-2). The Beacons are now 23-1 all-time against the Wolves.

WWU shot 42.9% (12-28) from beyond the arc and finished with a 45-25 advantage in rebounds. The 20-point rebounding margin included a 17-2 difference in offensive boards.

Chariah Daniels led the Wolves with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Six players hit at least one three, including three from Natalee Trevino, who posted 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

The Beacons, who shot 43.4% from the floor, were led by Aspen Slifka's 29 points. Her 29 points are tied for 10th in the Bushnell record book for single-game scoring, putting her on the list for the third time in her career.

Libby Mathis recorded 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting and added five rebounds.

"Aspen kept us in the game the whole time, but it was a challenge for us from the get-go," said Meadors. "We've got to bounce back tomorrow and find a way to play better against a really good team and I know we will."

Up next, Bushnell takes on No. 7 Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
