CALDWELL, Idaho – The Bushnell men's soccer team put the breaks on an eight-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon, scoring with less than four minutes to play to claim a tie against The College of Idaho, 2-2.
Â
Head Coach
Joao Ehlers said, "We had a great performance tonight. We showed a lot of resilience to compete at a high level until the last minute against a very strong opponent."
Â
The Beacons (4-8-3, 0-8-2 CCC) survived a 7-1 shot deficit in the first half as the teams went to the intermission knotted at zeroes. The floodgates opened in the second half, with Bushnell getting on board first just two minutes into the period.
Â
Francisco Cayolla connected on his third goal of the season, taking a pass from
Omar Barajas to put the Beacons ahead, 1-0. Five minutes later, the Yotes put an equalizer into the back of the net.
Â
It was the Yotes who took the next lead in the 79th minute as a foul in the box created a penalty kick for Emil Powles.
Â
The culprit of that foul in the box, sophomore
Jorge Lopez (pictured), made up for his mistake in the 87th minute, taking a pass from
Oliver Bartel and scoring to give the visitors the draw.
Â
College of Idaho (9-2-3, 8-1-2), a team currently receiving votes in the NAIA national coaches poll, finished the game with a 17-6 advantage in shots and an 8-2 margin in corner kicks. Securing one point for the tie, they are now one point behind Southern Oregon for the conference lead. Â
Â
The Beacons continue their road trip on Saturday, heading to Caldwell to take on The College of Idaho at 4:00 pm, Mountain Time.
