Beacons Take Down Yotes, 65-52

EUGENE, Ore. – Four Beacons reached double figures as the Bushnell University women's basketball team defeated the College of Idaho, 65-52, in Friday evening's Cascade Collegiate Conference contest in the Morse Center.

Bushnell (10-5, 7-3 CCC) led from start to finish in the victory and now sits in a tie with Oregon Tech for fourth place in the conference standings.

The College of Idaho (10-6, 5-5) trailed by six with six and a half minutes to go in the fourth quarter but five straight points from Aspen Slifka made it an 11-point lead for the Beacons and the Yotes were unable to close the gap.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "It was great to get a win tonight. We've been struggling a little bit, so it was nice to see us fight through some of that. I wouldn't say we shot the ball really well but we did attack the basket, get into the paint, and we rebounded and defended all night long. We did a great job defending and trying to take their best players out."

The Beacons shot 38.3% from the field, making 4-of-13 from beyond the arc. On the defensive side, Bushnell finished with a 53-40 advantage in rebounding and recorded a season-high nine blocks.

Kalina Rojas posted her second double-double of the year, finishing with 13 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Slifka recorded 12 points, tied a season-high nine rebounds, and added five steals and three blocks. Kaylen Kamelamela and Libby Mathis posted 10 points apiece with Mathis adding three blocks.

The Yotes were led by Bryanna Graham, who scored 12 points on the night. Sienna Riggle added 10 points and 15 rebounds, while Lexi Mitchell finished with nine points, six rebounds and four steals. As a team, C of I shot 28.1% from the floor, making 7-of-24 from three.

"We had a great week of practice, followed that up with a tough win and now have a little momentum going into Saturday's game," said Meadors. "We are excited about the opportunity."

Up next, the Beacons host No. 16 Eastern Oregon University tomorrow at 3 p.m.
