FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Bushnell men's soccer team will take a .500 record into Cascade Conference play after claiming a 1-1 tie against Pacific University on Saturday in their final non-conference match.
Bushnell moved to 2-2-1 after another strong defensive showing in which they allowed just four shots-on-goal. The Beacons outshot the Boxers (0-3-1) 10-9.
Head Coach
Joao Ehlers said, "We played well today even though we weren't able to win the game. We had good possession and we were able to create some good chances. The Pacific goalie had a great night and made some difficult saves. I believe our performance is improving game-by-game, which gives our guys confidence to continue working."
It was Pacific that struck first, scoring in the 36th minute. The Beacons responded in the second half as sophomore
Caleb Burke (pictured) connected for the equalizer in the 57th minute.
Burke has now scored in four of Bushnell's five matches and already has six goals on the season the most by a Beacon in 12 years. He is now just one shy of tying the school single-season record.
With the pre-season now in the rear-view mirror, the Beacons prepare for the start of the Cascade Collegiate Conference slate, opening at home on Friday when they take on Walla Walla University (0-0) at 2:00 pm.
