Beacons Fall to Owls Twice

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – No. 3 Oregon Tech swept the visiting Bushnell softball team on Friday behind the arms of Sarah Abramson and Mckenzie Staub, who held the Beacons to five hits with 1-0 and 10-1 victories in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

The Owls (41-10, 24-5 CCC) passed the 40-win mark in the one-run opener. The Beacons (15-31, 11-18) will look ahead to a must-win game three tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Game One: Oregon Tech 1, Bushnell 0

Jayce Seavert hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the second and Sarah Abramson struck out 10 for the Owls in the opener. Abramson allowed just three hits to record her 23rd win of the year in the circle.

The most promising scoring opportunity for the Beacons came in the top of the first as Krystal Akagi opened the contest with a double to left center. The bases were loaded with one out after walks from Alyssa Ferreira and Anabel Mendez but Abramson retired the next two batters.

Abramson struck out six of the next seven and did not allow another runner to get into scoring position until the top of the seventh. Jordan Kuykendall led off the frame with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Madison Steelman. Abramson struck out the final two batters to seal the three-hit shutout.

Sam Silver tossed all six innings for Bushnell, giving up just five hits to the third-ranked Owls.

Game Two: Oregon Tech 10, Bushnell 1

OIT used a five-run third and a four-run fourth to a win via run-rule in the second game. Kennedy Jantzi drove in three runs with a home run in the third and Kaila Mick brought in two more in the fourth with a triple.

The Beacons avoided the shutout with a run in the fourth off the bat of Mendez. Akagi reached on a leadoff double and Mendez brought her home with a single to right. It was the second double of the day for Akagi, who led the Beacons with a 2-for-4 stat line on the afternoon.

Mckenzie Staub (15-4) allowed just two hits as Oregon Tech's game two starter, both in the fourth inning, and had six strikeouts.

Aliyah Kelly got the start for Bushnell and went 2.1 innings, allowing six runs on four hits. Silver came in for 1.2 innings of relief, allowing two earned runs on four hits.

The Beacons must defeat the Owls in tomorrow's conference game to keep their postseason chances alive. Tomorrow's contest will be followed by the non-conference regular season finale.
