Beacons Lead Wire-to-Wire, Beat OIT

EUGENE, Ore. – After jumping out to an 11-0 lead, the Bushnell women's basketball team rolled to a 74-64 victory over Oregon Tech on Friday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference action at the Morse Center.

Bushnell (16-9, 13-4 CCC) keep pace in the CCC as all four of the top-four teams won on Friday. The victory also gave the Beacons a 3.5 game lead over the Owls for fourth-place with five games remaining.

The Owls (16-7, 9-7) shot 6-for-11 from three-point range and held a 41-33 rebounding advantage, but turned the ball over 21 times and were never able to climb any closer than six points after the tough start. Bushnell kept Oregon Tech off the scoreboard for the first five minutes of the game as the Owls missed their first six shots.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "We had a great start tonight and the team really provided some energy. Defensively we sped them up and Aly Mirabile really set the tone in the first quarter, all over the place making plays."

The Beacons were led by junior Aspen Slifka, scoring 21 points while Bella Pedrojetti came off the bench to hit a trio of three-pointers, finishing with 14. "Aspen and Bella really shot the ball well tonight and hit big timely threes," said Meadors.

Senior Morgan McKinney was up to her usual tricks, finishing the night with 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Mirabile posted ten points and led all players with seven assists and six steals.

The Owls were led by Maddyson Tull, shooting 8-for-11 from the field to finish with 17. Kristin Farrell came off the bench to score 11, hitting three treys, while Shelby Blodgett led all players with 13 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.

Bushnell will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, playing host to Southern Oregon University at 3:00 pm. The Raiders are currently tied for second-place in the conference and sit a half game ahead of the Beacons.
