Beacons Cruise Into Postseason with Victory

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Senior Morgan McKinney etched another spot at the top of the Bushnell career record books on Saturday, claiming the all-time assist record as she help guide Bushnell to a bounce-back victory over The Evergreen State College, 81-63 in the final game of the regular season.

McKinney finished the night with a team-high six assists, giving her 376 in her career. She broke the previous record of 370 which had been set by Aly Bruns from 2009-2013.

Having already locked up the No. 4 seed for the CCC tournament, without any chance for movement in any direction, the Beacons (18-12, 15-7 CCC) were playing to gain momentum heading into the post season after a tough Friday loss, and they got it, dominating nearly every facet of the game. Bushnell shot nearly 50% from the field, out-rebounded the Geoducks 40-31, and outscored their opponent 41-11 off the bench, including 18 from Libby Mathis who shot 7-for-9 and added six rebounds in just 17 minutes of work.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "I was proud of how we bounced back after a really tough loss to get the win tonight. We moved the ball really well and rebounded for the second night in a row. Libby was a handful down on the block tonight and really had her way. I was proud to see her have back-to-back strong games."

Bushnell used a 25-11 first quarter to establish their presence, and never looked back on Saturday, leading by as many as 28 in the fourth before Evergreen closed on a small run.

Behind Mathis, Kalina Rojas had a strong game with 11 points, adding a team-high eight rebounds. Aspen Slifka also scored 11, adding five assists and two blocks.

For the second consecutive CCC Tournament (none was held last season), the Beacons will host a quarterfinal game, taking on No. 5 seed Oregon Tech on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Bushnell defeated the Owls by ten points at home in their only official match up of the season, having also claimed a COVID-forfeit win for the game scheduled in Klamath Falls.
