Beacons Open Weekend With 85-55 Win Over Multnomah

EUGENE, Ore. – The Bushnell University women's basketball team had another strong defensive showing on Friday evening, pulling away from visiting Multnomah University in the second half to post an 85-55 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.

Head Coach Chad Meadors said, "Without a doubt, defense stole the show tonight. I was really impressed with Libby and Kalina in the first half, holding it down when they were trying to take away our guards. We kept getting it in there to those two and they kept finishing which opened up the three-pointer. It was awesome to see Bella do her thing tonight and knock down four threes."

After allowing 21 points in the first quarter, Bushnell (5-2, 2-0 CCC) locked in on defense, holding the Lions to just nine made baskets the remainder of the way. The Beacons forced 27 turnovers and finished with a 47-30 advantage in rebounds. Shawnie Spink led all players with a career-high 10 rebounds.

Bella Pedrojetti led the team with 18 points, making 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Olivia Bailon recorded 12 points, while Libby Mathis added 11 to put three Beacons in double digits. Aspen Slifka posted eight points and six assists. Kalina Rojas neared another double-double, finishing with eight points and nine rebounds.

The Beacons shot 47% from the floor on the night, including 43.5% from three, and made 13-of-15 free throws.

Multnomah (3-3, 1-1 CCC) was led by Dalila Rincan, who led all scorers with 22 points. Alaygza Portis led the Lions defensively, finishing with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Bushnell hosts Warner Pacific on Saturday at 3 p.m.
