Beacons Take Fourth at Eagle Point

EAGLE POINT, Ore. – Kelsie Hellwege finished in tenth individually and the Bushnell women's golf team claimed fourth at the Oregon Tech Invitational at Eagle Point Golf Club.

In the first Cascade Collegiate Conference counter of the season, and the first event for the women since November, Hellwege shot an 83-84—167 and claimed her eighth career top-ten finish. Cassidy Krauss followed in 15th (88-89—177).

After the match Krauss said, "We are so grateful to be playing again. The weather really held up for us so even though the outcome wasn't what we wanted it to be, we were able to compete again."

Rounding out the individual results for Bushnell, were Carli Brousseau in 17th (90-91—181) and Fern Gardea in 22nd (95-95—190). Brousseau had a highlight-reel moment on the 18th hold as she dunked a 125-yard iron shot for an Eagle.

"The greens were tough," said Brousseau. "The course was in great condition and we were all able to hit some great shots. It was a great challenge and a fun day."

With a team score of 715, Bushnell broke a first-round tie with The College of Idaho, defeating the Yotes by seven strokes in Tuesday's round. Oregon Tech won their own event at 636, claiming a 23-stroke advantage on second-place Lewis-Clark State College. Corban took third with 705.

Next up for the Beacon women will be the Lewis-Clark State Invitational beginning March 22 at Clarkston Golf Course in Clarkston, Washington.
