Beacons Fall to Corban to Close Out Season

EUGENE, Ore. – A scoreless first half gave way to an onslaught in the second as Corban University closed out the regular season with a 6-1 victory over Bushnell on Saturday.

The Beacons were out-shot 39-3 in the contest including a 14-2 margin in shots-on-goal as senior Julian Hernandez gutted out his final collegiate performance with eight saves. He finishes his career with the second-highest number of saves in school history and just two behind the all-time record.

"That was a hard loss," said head coach Will Hander. "We played well and stuck to our plan but we came up short."

It was the final game for all of Bushnell's seniors, including Raul Ochoa, Fausto Gomez, Esgar Avila, Arjuna Chotu, Andrew Mitchell, Joel Kambou, and Hernandez. Coach Hander said, "I can't thank our seniors enough for what they gave this program and the legacy of character and grit they are leaving behind."

For Gomez, senior night included his final career goal as he fired a 30-yard strike into an empty net after the Corban keeper got tangled with a Bushnell defender, creating a loose ball in the 82nd minute.

Bushnell finishes the season at 2-14, including a 2-11 mark in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
