EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 16 Northwest Christian University women's basketball team will advance to the second round of the CCC tournament after beating Northwest 90-67 on Tuesday night.
The Beacons started the game trailing 12-4 before finishing on a 16-8 run to end the first quarter. NCU outscored the Eagles 26-15 in the second quarter behind 67% shooting from the field and 3-for-5 from three while holding Northwest to 4-of-15 shooting.
After leading 46-31 at the break, NCU extended their lead behind ten points in the third quarter from
Morgan McKinney.The Beacons forced 12 second half turnovers to outscored Northwest 44-36.
Junior
Morgan McKinney led the Beacons (24-5, 17-3 CCC) with a game-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists. Freshman
Aspen Slifka scored 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the field while junior
Kayce Mock tallied nine points, seven rebounds, four blocks, and four assists.
Dani Baker added eight points and three rebounds off the bench.
On the night, NCU shot 55% from the field with ten made threes. The Beacons forced 20 Northwest turnovers as they grabbed 13 steals resulting in 25 points off turnovers. NCU outrebounded the Eagles 41-37 with 12 offensive rebounds to go with their 24 assists. The Beacon bench outscored NU 27-18 in the victory.
Livi Lindsay led the Eagles (10-21, 8-12) with 20 points on 8-for-14 shooting while Lexi Biggerstaff added 11 points and nine rebounds. Northwest's leading scorer Sam Van Loo was held to just six points in the loss.
The Beacons will return to action for the second round of the CCC tournament on Friday, as they take on Corban at 7:00pm in the Morse Event Center.
