Beacons Take Down Wolves, 95-70

EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 22 Northwest Christian University women's basketball team extended their home win-streak to seven as they beat Walla Walla University 95-70 on Friday afternoon.

Highlighted by a 14-2 run to start the game, NCU finished the first quarter with a 28-6 edge as they shot 57% from the field while holding Walla Walla to just 3-for-14 shooting in the opening period.The Wolves responded in the second quarter with a 27-11 run of their own led by four three point makes from Isabella Robles.

After leading 39-33 at halftime, Aspen Slifka came out firing in the third quarter to score 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting to help the Beacons outscore Walla Walla 30-13 in third quarter. The Beacons shot a game-high 84% from the field on 11-13 shooting in the period. NCU was then able to extend their lead as they outscored the Wolves 26-24 in the fourth quarter to give them the 95-70 victory.

NCU finished the day shooting 57.1% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc on 10-of-24 shooting. The Beacons forced 13 turnovers to result in 16 points off turnovers, along with outrebounding Walla Walla 48-28, with 15 offensive rebounds.

Morgan McKinney led the way for the Beacons (17-4, 11-2 CCC) with a game-high 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists on 10-14 shooting. After today's game McKinney moves to third all-time in NCU scoring history with 1,134 career points.

Kayce Mock

Aspen Slifka also had a game-high 25 points on 9-14 shooting while Kayce Mock had a double-double with 12 points and a season-high 16 rebounds. Shanay Dotson added 12 points and eight rebounds in the win. 

Jaliyah Case led the Wolves (3-19, 1-12) with 22 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc while Jacqueline Saucedo added 16 points and seven rebounds. The Wolves grabbed 10 steals as they forced 18 NCU turnovers in the loss.

NCU will return to action tomorrow as they play host in the second of back to back games against Walla Walla. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm in the Morse Event Center.
