1/24/2020 9:18:00 PM

Box Score Kirkland, Wash. – The No. 22-ranked Northwest Christian University women's basketball team was able to complete the season sweep as they beat Northwest University 84-80 on Friday night.

The Beacons struggled early on as they shot .303 from the field and just 1-of-10 from three in the first half. After trailing 25-34 at halftime, NCU came out strong in the second half using a full court press to outscore the Eagles 32-13 in the third quarter on 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. With under two minutes remaining in the final period, Northwest went on a 11-5 run to narrow the deficit to two with just 18 second remaining, however the late surge was not enough as the Beacons held on for the victory. On the night NCU shot .451 from the field and outrebounded Northwest 42-35.

Head Coach Chad Meadors stated, "What a great win! We were able to come from behind in the third quarter because our kids stepped up and made a lot of plays that were ignited by our full court press. At the end we had to close it out, last time in this same spot we faltered but this time we regrouped and finished well."

Junior Morgan McKinney led the Beacons (14-4, 8-2 CCC) with a game-high 20 points, five assists, and four rebounds while freshman Kaylen Kamelamela added a game-high 20 points, five assists, and three rebounds on 6-6 shooting from the free throw line. Kayce Mock added in 12 points and five rebounds.

Meadors said, "Morgan and Kayce led the charge for us and Kaylen Kamelamela was outstanding driving to the basket. The win comes at a cost as Sarah Reinecker got hurt tonight and we will have to reevaluate things on Monday, which means we will be short handed tomorrow. Our team has some fight an we  will have to figure out how to get it done against Evergreen."

Lexi Biggerstaff led Northwest (6-14, 4-6) with 19 points while Livi Lindsey tallied 17 points and five rebounds. San Van Loo added a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Beacons will continue their road trip as they travel to Olympia, Washington to take on The Evergreen State College on Saturday, January 25, at 5:30pm.
