High-Scoring Beacons Pull Away from WPU

Eugene, Ore. –The Northwest Christian University women's basketball captured their fifth win in Cascade Conference play as they beat Warner Pacific 96-81 at home on Friday night. It was their second-highest scoring output of the season.

After shooting 4-18 in the first quarter, the Beacons went on to shoot 58.5% from the field over the final 30 minutes as they hit 11 three pointers. NCU grabbed 16 steals along with controlling the boards as they out-rebounded the Knights 41-35 with 12 offensive rebounds.

NCU Head Coach Chad Meadors stated, "We shot the ball extremely well tonight, especially from the perimeter. Sarah, Morgan, Aspen, the list goes on, they were all able to continually knock shots down. Defensively, we forced them to turn the ball over, but we have a lot of work to do improve on defensively. So we won by 15 points, that margin of error was largely due to our shooting being the difference. I would like for us to come out tomorrow with better defense and play a complete game along with shooting the ball well."

Sophomore Sarah Reinecker led the Beacons (11-3, 5-1 CCC) with 19 points, three rebounds, and three steals off the bench as she shot 7-11 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc. Morgan McKinney scored 17 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals on 7-10 shooting while Aspen Slifka tallied 16 points and four rebounds. Kayce Mock added a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds in the victory.

Samantha Morgan led the Knights (7-9, 4-4) with 16 points, three steals and two assists on 7-12 shooting while Courtney Jackson scored 16 points off the bench on 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc. Gabriella Bruno added 13 points and six rebounds in the loss.

The Beacons, who lead the CCC in scoring at 74.3 points per game, will continue Cascade Conference play as they host Multnomah University on Saturday at 5:30 pm at the Morse Event Center. Warner Pacific heads to Salem to take on Corban University, who defeated Multnomah on Friday night.
