MONMOUTH, Ore. – NCU's final non-conference games for the 2019 season went in the loss column on Wednesday, dropping a double-header with Western Oregon University, 12-4 and 8-0. Both games were called via run rule after five innings.
The Beacons struck first in game one, posting a pair in the top of the third inning when an RBI bunt single by
Emma Jegtvig was misplayed allowing
Noel Balderston and
Maya Jenkins to score.
The Wolves responded with five runs in the bottom of the third, with all five coming home on a trio of home runs by the heart of the WOU batting order.
The Beacons got two back in the fourth on an RBI single by
Jessica Garner but that would be the final offense of the day for the visitors.
Jegtvig broke a season-long hitting slump as she collected two hits on the day and
Avery Daniels also posted a pair of singles in the loss. Jegtvig (2-5) took the loss in the circle, allowing nine runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings.
Game two proved to be all WOU as they hit
Shay Shropshire (0-4) for eight runs on eight hits while Wolves starter Reilly Tidwell held NCU to just two hits in her complete-game shutout.
The Beacons (2-11) will be back in action this weekend, finally playing their debut games at James Park as they take on winless University of Providence in a four-game series. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
