NCU Falters in Key Contest

EUGENE, Ore.  –The road to the post-season got a little bit trickier for the Beacons on Friday night as they fell to Northwest University, 65-56. The result lands both teams at 5-9 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and tied for eighth place.

A win for the Beacons would have evened up the season series, but instead the Eagles walk away with the season sweep and the tie-breaker should it be needed to get into the eight-team CCC tournament. Plenty of action will take place between now and then, however, with six conference games remaining for both schools.

The Eagles (8-16, 5-9 CCC) came back from a 15-9 first-quarter deficit and never looked back, winning despite being out-rebounded 45-38 and committing 12 turnovers. NU shot 41% in the game and had eight blocked shots.

Northwest Christian (8-15, 5-9) shot just 29% in the game but hit eight three-pointers and collected 20 offensive rebounds for the fourth time this season. Hitting just 54.5% of their free-throws didn't do them any favors.

The Beacons were led by Sarah Reinecker, coming off the bench to score 12 points. Kaylynn Bush added 11 while Shanay Dotson recorded a double-double with ten points, 15 rebounds and four assists.

Northwest had four players in double figures led by Sam Van Loo, shooting 7-for-9 to collected 14 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks. Mariah Stacona added 13 points while Miranda Langenhorst and Ellesse Fitzgerald scored ten points apiece.

NU will head to Salem on Saturday to take on No. 22 Corban University. The Beacons remain home to face Evergreen State. Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 pm.
