EUGENE, Ore. – For the second year in a row, the Northwest Christian University men's soccer team picked up a crucial single point in the CCC standings with a draw against The Evergreen State College. This time around it was a 0-0 result, completing a successful opening weekend in conference play for the Beacons.
NCU Head Coach
Benny Flores said, "I am really proud of the boys. To come back after a tough game against Northwest and play so well against another quality team in Evergreen is quite awesome. The guys followed the game plan and were very unlucky to not get the win. It was a great weekend for NCU soccer. To get four points in a weekend in our conference is extremely difficult. I give credit to the whole team. Every person on the roster played a role this weekend. I am excited to see what they can accomplish together."
The Beacons (2-3-1, 1-0-1 CCC) set the tone early and finished the night with a 20-14 shot advantage while both teams took six shots on goal. Thus, it was dueling six-save 110-minute shutouts for both NCU's
Julian Hernandez (pictured) and Evergreen's Ben Stevenson.
The best opportunity to score for either team came in the first overtime when Evergreen took a free-kick from 25-yards out which clanged off the crossbar.
Evergreen (3-1-1, 0-1-1) will return home next Friday night to take on Warner Pacific University. NCU remains at home for another set of games next weekend, beginning with The University of Providence on Friday at 3:30 pm.
