EUGENE, Ore.   – The 2018 NCU softball season closed out on Friday with one last triple-header as NCU lost three to the University of British Columbia.
Â
Despite a trio of defeats, the Beacons went out on a high note with numerous individual and team records being achieved.
Â
NCU closed out the season with a record of 10-35, owning a 6-21 mark in Cascade Conference action as they improved their win-column totals over last year. The Beacons wrap up a year that saw new single-season records for at-bats (1210), hits (344), and runs batted in (163). The RBI record breaks the previous record of 151 which had stood for 17 years.
Â
On the individual accomplishment side,
Alyssa Gayle came into the day needing one RBI to break the single-season mark. She finished the afternoon with six more to reset the mark at 43.
Â
Already the single-season record holder for hits and stolen bases, junior
Jessica Garner added the runs scored record as well, tying the record of 36 set by Tina Houtz in 2001. Garner's final batting average of .385 was an NAIA-era record and the best for a Beacon in 16 years.
Â
Also making a new registry in the record book was sophomore
Avery Daniels (pictured) who benefited from the triple header by setting a new standard with nine hits in a single-day. The previous record of six was set by Parker Fritter in 2016. Â
