Simpson 59, Northwest Christian 56 (Overtime)
Â
The Redhawk defense proved to be deadly on Thursday night, holding the Beacons to just 30% shooting including a 6-for-29 effort from three-point range as they claimed the overtime victory.
Â
After falling behind 27-18 at halftime, the Beacons roared back with 21 points in the third quarter alone, taking a 39-34 lead into the final ten minutes of regulation. Unfortunately, Simpson had a comeback of their own, tying the contest before winning in overtime.
Â
The Beacons were led by
Morgan McKinney, scoring 20 points along with three assists.
Conner Borigo scored 11 points and
Kaylynn Bush picked up 11 rebounds.
Â
Simpson was led by Alli Ramelli, scoring 14 points. Madison Cox registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.
Â
"Our legs didn't get off the bus for starters," said head coach
Chad Meadors. "We settled down and simplified things in the second half. We dug our way out and kept it close in a poor-shooting game. You figure when your defense only gives up 59 points that you would find a way to win, but it wasn't to be."
