PORTLAND, Ore. –
Conner Borigo scored a game-high 18 points off the bench while leading the No. 24-ranked Northwest Christian University women's basketball team to a 66-45 victory over the Multnomah University Lions in CCC action on Friday night.
Â
Both teams shot under 40 percent from the field, with MU holding a slight 43-41 rebounding advantage. Their carelessness with the ball turned out to be their downfall, however, as NCU (12-1, 5-1 CCC) forced 28 turnovers on the night, cashing in 31 points off the extra possessions.
Â
"Multnomah did a great job defending us with energy, and flat-out gave more effort than us tonight." Beacon Head Coach
Heath Alexander commented. "I was very happy with Conner tonight, she kept the game simple and gave us great scoring off the bench."
Â
NCU's bench contributed 29 points on the night, 14 more than the Lions reserves.
Â
The Beacons held Multnomah to single digits in both the first and second periods. The two sides traded scores for the first 15 minutes of action, with Northwest Christian taking the lead for good with 4:43 left in the first half and taking a 27-18 lead into the break.
Â
NCU found their rhythm in the third period, padding their lead by 11. The Beacons turned the ball over just three times in the second half, leading to their fourth straight conference victory.
Â
Morgan McKinney (pictured) scored 13 points for the Beacons while also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds and swiping three steals.
Niki Duncan finished with 11 points, including three long-range baskets and three steals of her own. Reining CCC player-of-the-week
Anamaria Virjoghe was the fourth Beacon in double figures, ending the night with ten points, three boards and three blocks.
Â
Multnomah (0-16, 0-6) was lead by Valerie Wakefield who had 12 points, six assists and four rebounds. Paris Sanders finished with nine boards for the Lions.
