The College of Idaho made it interesting on Friday night, but the No. 15 Northwest Christian University women's basketball team came through late as they pulled out a 64-56 Cascade Conference victory.
Â
After leading for the majority of the game and taking a 33-23 lead into the intermission, NCU watched as their margin was slowly chipped away. The Yotes eventually tied the game, 56-56 with just under three minutes remaining on a layup from Lindy Westendorf.
Â
The Beacons answered as senior
Niki Duncan drained a triple on the following possession and NCU went on to outscore the visitors 8-0 over the final 2:30 minutes.
Â
The Beacons (14-2, 7-2 CCC) shot 51% in the game and out-rebounded the Yotes 33-25. C of I (3-13, 3-7) kept things close thanks to a 52.6% clip from three-point range including a 5-for-6 effort in the third, their highest scoring quarter of the contest.
Â
NCU was led by freshman
Anamaria Virjoghe (pictured), scoring 18 points. Freshman
Morgan McKinney added 13 points while Duncan finished with 12.
Katerina Brejchova led the Beacons with seven rebounds and three assists while scoring six points.
Â
The College of Idaho was led by Keahi Roy who shot 3-for-5 from downtown, collecting 15 points along with a game-high four assists. Alyssa Case scored just five points but brought in six steals while Westendorf ended the evening with six points and a game-high eight rebounds. Sophia Jackson came off the bench to score 13 as the C of I reserves outscored the Beacon bench, 21-15.
Â
The Beacons will be back in action on Saturday night as they welcome No. 6 Eastern Oregon into the Morse Event Center. The Yotes will head north to Salem to take on Corban. Both games will tip-off at 5:30 pm.Â
