Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – A three-strike blitz over the first 17 minutes of the game was all the Northwest Christian University men's soccer team would need as they knocked off Oregon Tech on Saturday night, 3-0.
Â
In fact, with the defense allowing just three shots on goal, a goal in the second minute of the contest ended up being all the Beacons would need in a dominant performance.
Â
An early corner kick by
Ian Hernandez was headed back by the Owl defense directly to senior
Jesse Figueroa who found the ball in midair and fired back an 18-yard blast for the eventual game winner.
Â
Then, in the 15th minute it was
Sanad Elghanai who collected a loose ball and set a rocket of his own from 25-yards out for a blink-and-you'll-miss-it unassisted goal.
Â
Just two minutes later the Beacons made it 3-0 when a Figueroa through-ball found a wide open
Victor Irechukwu who shot the ball from just inside the 18 and found the back of the net.
Â
While the offense's work was done for the evening, the defense was just getting started. A strong performance from the backline of Figueroa,
Tito Gomez,
Tyler Farmer and
Kaleb Miles allowed just three shots-on-goal to OIT while sophomore keeper
Yayo Olvera picked up all three saves and numerous clearances off corners and crosses throughout the evening.
Â
The Beacons (3-5-1, 3-2-1 CCC) jump back into a tie for fourth-place in the CCC with the win, sitting at ten points to match the total of Northwest University. OIT (3-6, 2-4) remains tied for ninth with six points.
Â
NCU will return to action next Saturday when they play host to CCC leading Corban University, currently ranked No. 5 in the NAIA. OIT heads home on Friday to host Warner Pacific.Â
