KIRKLAND, Wash. – A golden goal with just 18 seconds remaining in overtime spoiled a strong NCU performance on Friday and the Beacons continue to look for their first victory of the season after a 2-1 loss to Northwest University. It was the Cascade Conference opener for both schools.
Â
The Eagles (3-2, 1-0 CCC) had taken the early lead on a goal in the 26th minute but the Beacons got it back early in the second half when
Olisaemeka Obianozie (pictured) connected on a penalty kick to make it 1-1.
Â
The score remained the same as the Beacons endured a 15-6 shot deficit in the second half without allowing a goal as they played a man down for the final 34 minutes.
Â
Then, in the 100th minute Northwest finally broke through on a 12-yard game-winning strike from Chris Iacolucci.
Â
The Beacons (0-4, 0-1) collected seven shots-on-goal in the game while NCU keeper
Yayo Olvera collected seven saves in the losing effort.
Â
Northwest Christian will return to the pitch at 3:00 pm tomorrow when they head for Olympia to take on The Evergreen State College.Â
