Raiders Win a Pair to Close Series

ASHLAND, Ore. – After picking up their first victory in over a month on Thursday, the Beacons weren't able to muster the same magic on Friday afternoon, falling to No. 21 Southern Oregon University in a double-header, 14-1 and 9-3.

GAME ONE

Southern Oregon posted three runs in the first, four in the second, and seven in the third to pull out the run-rule victory in the opener. The Beacons got one run back in the fourth when Avery Daniels scored Ereanna Higbee on a double, but it was far from enough.

Alyssa Gayle took the loss for the Beacons, allowing seven earned runs in 1.1 innings of work. Janieve Boyles threw the final 1.1 innings, allowing just two hits while striking out a batter. NCU had five hits in the game, led by a 2-for-3 performance from Caitlyn Messman.

GAME TWO

Southern Oregon jumped out to the early lead again in game two, posting six runs (five earned) over the first two innings on starter Madi Jones. The Beacons made their case in the top of the third inning, scoring all three of their runs. After loading the bases, Daniels hit an RBI groundout and Tra Kucera added a two-RBI double to account for NCU's tally.

SOU went on to add two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to claim the 9-3 final score. Kucera, Jones, and Jessica Garner each had two hits in the game for the Beacons.

The Beacons will be back home next weekend, taking on the University of Great Falls in the penultimate homestand. The teams will kick things off on Friday at 2:00 pm.
