Beacons Pull Into Third

EUGENE, Ore. – An NCU victory coupled with a loss by Oregon Tech has put both teams in a tie, setting up a showdown on Thursday night with third-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference on the line. The Beacons did their part with a 74-48 victory over Warner Pacific.

The Beacons (17-8, 14-4) also broke a school-record in the process, topping the 13-win CCC campaign of a year ago and with two games remaining in the regular season as well. The senior-night victory game behind the strength of 45% shooting and a 46-28 advantage in rebounding. NCU dished out 21 assists on 29 shots on Saturday.

Senior Jeni Hoffert made the most of her final regular-season home game, scoring 22 points as she shot 6-for-9 from three-point range. Senior Hanna Mack added six points, nine rebounds and two blocks and in the first start of her career, senior Hina Blackwell stepped up with three points and five assists.

Head Coach Heath Alexander said, "This was a great night for our seniors. Hina, Jeni, and Hanna were a huge part of our first recruiting calls here at NCU and have been a big part of our success. They are great players and even better people."

The Beacon bench was also strong, including a double-double from freshman Hanna Eddens, scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds as she shot 7-for-9 from the field. Junior Niki Duncan added nine points on the strength of three treys and junior Kenzie Weston filled the stat sheet with eight points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals.

Warner Pacific (4-24, 2-16 CCC) was led by Bailey Allen, scoring 20 points along with four assists and two steals. Kyeli Hendryx added ten points and seven rebounds. The Knights were limited to just their five starters and very light duty off the bench from an injured Darbi Pink. WPC had to finish the game with just four on the floor for the final two minutes after a pair of players fouled out.

NCU and Oregon Tech will clash on Thursday night in Klamath Falls at 5:30 pm. The teams have both clinched a top-four finish and the right to host a first-round playoff game. NCU will clinch third with a win, while an OIT win would still leave a door open for the Beacons if they evened things up in the final day of the regular season next Saturday.
