Beacons Beat Pacific Union 77-47

Angwin, Calif. – The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team beat the Pioneers of Pacific Union College by a score of 77-47 on Friday, completing their California road schedule. The Lady Beacons are off to a hot start in non-conference play, winning all three of their games by a minimum of 30 points.

NCU's offense was firing on all cylinders on Friday, as they shot 44% from the field and 47% from three-point land. They went 58% in the first half before cooling a bit to 33% after intermission.

Anamaria Virjoghe and Janae Turner each went 50% on the night, good for 15 points each. Turner hit three shots from beyond-the-arc, most of any player on the floor, while Virjoghe had a team-high nine boards. Morgan McKinney was the third Beacon to land in double-digits with 11 points, shooting over 71% in the contest. Katerina
Brejchova made her presence felt on both ends of the court, scoring nine points while grabbing eight off the glass. Sophomore Dani Baker contributed nine points and two rebounds of the bench in nine minutes of action.

Head Coach Heath Alexander spoke of his team's performance following the game. "I was really happy with the way we shot the ball today. We were really efficient with our offense. We did a nice job defensively, but we still have a lot to work on. Overall, I'm proud of the way we competed today."

The Beacon defense did a great job of interrupting PUC's attack, holding the Pioneers to just a .22 field-goal percentage while forcing 17 turnovers. The Beacons held their opponent to under ten points in two of the four quarters, something they've done in each of their three games.

Pacific Union (0-2) played well to open the game, going into the second quarter trailing by just six points. The Pioneers had two players in double digits in Karla McCommas and Kylie Beal who scored 12 and ten, respectively.

The Beacons are in action again on Sunday when they travel north to Spokane, Washington to take on NCAA powerhouse Gonzaga. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip.
