EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team continued their hottest start ever as they closed out the non-conference schedule with a 70-58 victory over Simpson University on Saturday afternoon to improve to 7-0.

The Redhawks made NCU work for it, holding a lead for most of the first quarter before taking a five-point advantage early in the second. The Beacons, however, responded with a 17-4 run over the final five minutes to take a 38-26 lead into the intermission.

NCU led by as many as 19 points in the third quarter, but Simpson hung around to keep it to a 12-point margin at the final horn.

The Beacons shot 41% in the game but had seven blocks as they held the Redhawks to just 32% shooting. NCU also out-rebounded Simpson, 45-35 including 18 offensive boards.

Freshman
Anamaria Virjoghe led the way for the home team, scoring 14 points on 7-for-11 shooting.
Morgan McKinney added 12 points and
Conner Borigo chipped in 11, both off the bench.
Katerina Brejchova continued to produced in all areas, scoring 6 points with a game-high 12 rebounds along with three assists, two blocks, and a steal.
Dani Baker also had a big day for NCU, scoring six points on a pair of three-pointers and leading all players with four assists. Baker was the catalyst during NCU's big second-quarter run that including five straight three pointers.

Simpson (2-8) was led by Fallon Greenhaw who posted a game-high 23 points including a 10-for-13 effort at the charity stripe. Natalie Campos was the only other Redhawk in double-figures, scoring 11 off the bench.

With the pre-season firmly in the rearview mirror, the Beacons turn their sights on the CCC, which will begin on Tuesday night with a trip to Salem to take on Corban University at 5:30 pm.Â
